Mission & History

Mission

New Horizons Crisis Center's mission is to advocate for, support, and empower those impacted by crime, while providing education and resources for our communities and partners.

Philosophy

New Horizons Crisis Center works with individuals and families who have been victimized by crime, while also providing preventative and educational services. We believe that being a victim can be an ongoing, life-altering experience. We are committed to providing a safe and non-judgmental environment through listening, advocating, and empowering our victims to transition from victim to survivor. New Horizons Crisis Center is dedicated to the cause of reducing and preventing crime in rural Minnesota. We strive to maintain this philosophy to the best of our abilities.

History

New Horizons Crisis Center (NHCC) was established in 1981 as a community-based sexual assault program to provide services to sexual assault victims in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, and Redwood counties. General Crime Program services were added to our victim services programming in 1994 and Parenting Time Program services were added in 1996. NHCC formed the Lyon County Sexual Assault Multidisciplinary Action Response Team (SMART) in 2009.
